Sir,

With reference to your letter 53514/35 of the 22nd August, 1935, regarding the acquisition of two areas of land for Royal Air Force purposes at Kai Tak, I am commanded by the Air Council to state, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that they have been obliged, on account of the additional cost over previous estimates which is now involved, to seek further authority from the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury in order to enable them to complete the trans- action.

The Council regret, therefore, that they cannot at this stage afford information for a definite answer to be given to the Hong Kong Government, but a further communication will be made in the matter as early as possible.

I am,

sir,

Your obedient Servant,

S. Ross

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street,

S.W.1.
